The Old Barn - Oak frame extension

The Brief – to gain planning permission to replace the existing timber pergola structure with an oak frame glazed loggia for outdoor living and alfresco dining.  The existing barn enjoys sweeping views to the rear of the property over the open countryside.

The Design –to meet the brief, a scissor truss oak design was agreed on with a self-cleaning pitched glazed roof.  The structure is supported on oak posts connected to traditional cast staddle stones.  A local company was used and although more expensive, the oak was grown in the UK to minimise the environmental impact of transport and to support local business.  The result is a stunning bespoke oak structure where the owners can entertain whilst sheltering from the elements!
