DIRECTOR

Building surveying and sustainable architectural design.

My love of historic buildings and interest in the environment led me to study Building Surveying in Bristol finishing in 2002.  Initially training and working for a multi-discipline practice specialising in historic buildings, I passed the ‘Assessment of Professional Competence’ and became a Chartered Building Surveyor and fully qualified member of the ‘Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) in 2007.  I decided to hone my skills in architectural design and went on to work for an award-winning architect’s practice in the historic city of Bath.  The practice specialises in sustainable design and many projects were designed and built using oak framing.  The city of Bath has a rich history and projects were undertaken on key listed buildings.

A round-the-world career break, much pondering and ‘Cornwall Architectural Design Ltd’ was formed in 2010, combining both qualifications to form a sustainable architectural design practice.  My wife joined the practice in the office in 2018 and we welcomed our beautiful baby girl to the world in 2021.  The practice has gone on to design and complete numerous projects for clients throughout Cornwall and the south west.

Having undertaken numerous planning applications, we have both experience and knowledge of the local planning regime, policies and regulations as well as a good working relationship with the Parish, Town and City Councils. We work regularly with Cornwall Council conservation officers, building control and structural engineers.  We also work with specialist, local manufacturers and suppliers such as oak framers and renewable technologies and have run successful projects on site with local building contractors.

In keeping with the ethos of the company, we aim to be as sustainable as possible; this includes electricity from solar photovoltaics topped up by power from a renewable electricity company as well as carbon offsetting with regular donations to the Woodland Trust.

In our spare time, we like to explore Cornwall's architectural heritage as well as walking, surfing, paddle boarding, enjoying live music and travelling whenever possible!
