Anguilla - Penthouse suite to a private Caribbean holiday home

The Brief – the brief was to design a top floor penthouse suite to a private residence on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. The property had suffered from recent storm damage and required refurbishment throughout. We worked closely with our clients to design a second floor addition which included two Bedrooms with Ensuite and Dressing room, an open plan Lounge and Kitchen area as well as large external decking area to soak up the sun and enjoy the extensive sea views.

The Design –  the proposed design for the property required the addition of a penthouse suite that was in keeping with the main house but did not dominate the skyline or overlook the neighbouring properties. The design took inspiration from the existing vernacular and main property with a hipped roof and crisp, white rendered external walls. Being set back from the lower floors, the top floor addition gives the optical illusion of reducing in size whilst allowing for a large external deck area. High level side windows and angled corners prevent overlooking of neighbouring properties.  Internally there are two large Bedrooms with Ensuite and Dressing areas, both with views out over the sea. A central entertaining area including second Kitchen with breakfast bar and Lounge allows the occupants to be self–contained with privacy from the main house. Access to the garden and beach from the deck is via a spiral staircase.

Project work undertaken by CAD before construction could take place included design concept and sketch schemes for the client, unfortunately a site visit was not on the cards this time………
